The
World Cup is a competition played by deaf cricket teams representing
their country. Like it's hearing counterparts, it is played as
a One Day International (ODI) which is a 50 over game.
The
first World Cup was held in Melbourne, Australia in 1995/96 and
was won by the host country, Australia, defeating England in the
final. Other teams represented were South Africa, New Zealand,
Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka.
The
second World Cup was held in Lucknow, India in 2005 and was won
by the host country, India, defeating England in the final. Australia
finished on top in the round robin but was overrun by England
in the semi final. Countries such as Bangladesh and Nepal were
welcome participants of the World Cup with 9 countries.
The
next scheduled World Cup will be held in New Zealand in 2009/10.
